PROGRAM GOALS

Graduates of instrumentation and automation are commonly used by manufacturing companies and process industries such as pasta and paper or metal. There are also companies offering consulting services and repair industrial automation and computerization of processes. A large proportion of technologists from the Instrumentation and Automation program are found in the petrochemical, water treatment, processing of plastics and food. The main tasks of these technologists are installation, servicing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of equipment monitoring and control of industrial processes.

TRAINING GOALS

At the end of the program, the technician will apply the basic concepts related to robotics.
  • Supervise and monitor the operations relating to the production of a robotic cell;
  • Ensure the smooth operation of automatic production equipment;
  • Know, understand and properly use techniques and current and foreseeable automation technologies;
  • Assist in the writing of the design brief;
  • Assist in the selection of equipment, ensure the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance and programming;
  • Check the performance of an installation and make the necessary adjustments and calibrations;
  • Draw diagrams to recognized industry standards.

PROFESSIONAL PROSPECTS

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Those interested in enrolling in this program must have completed a secondary or vocational diploma (DES or DEP) or have training deemed sufficient by the college. Those interested in enrolling in this program must also satisfy the following conditions:
  • Having interrupted his/her studies for at least two consecutive semesters or one academic year.
  • To be covered by an agreement between the College and an employer or a government program.
  • Have completed at least one year of postsecondary education over a period of a year or more.
